About event

The production Eternal lover Alma Mahlerová was created during the 40th jubilee season of the Theater in Řeznická. The plot of the play, "plays with words and emotions of all flavors", takes place in 1960 in New York, during the meeting of the publisher and Alma No. 1, who, at the end of her life, decides to write a memoir and thus bring to life all her famous, already dead husbands and lovers. Another very important role is the young Alma number 2, who is a kind of alter ego and memories.

Alma Mahlerová (1879 – 1964), also nicknamed the "Siren with blue eyes", was considered one of the most attractive and beautiful women in Vienna at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. As the daughter of the well-known Viennese landscape painter Emil Jakob Schindler, she lived in an artistic environment from an early age, and therefore, perhaps through this cultivation, she was gifted with a unique instinct to recognize budding artists of genius. She became their Muse and controlled them not only with her beauty, but also with her iron will, inspiring them, but also mercilessly forcing them to creative work. She studied music composition herself and aspired to become a composer. She was the famous wife of famous men - the composer and conductor Gustav Mahler, the architect and founder of the Bauhaus Walter Gropius, the writer Franz Werfel, and the lover and muse of many others - the painter Gustav Klimt, the composer Alexander von Zemlinsky and the painter Oskar Kokoschka, with whom she experienced perhaps the most stormy and intense relationship, thanks to which her face appears in all the world's museums and galleries. She lived not only in Vienna, Berlin and Venice, but also in the United States, in Beverly Hills and finally in New York.

She devoted her long life partly to the care of her great men, partly to the effort to preserve their memory, but above all she devoted it to creating her own legend - a loving devoted woman who placed her musical talent on the altar of her marriage to Gustav Mahler. However, in historical sources we also find facts that slightly demystify the image of Alma Mahler and reveal her dark sides. A propensity for immoderate consumption of alcohol and a strange tendency towards anti-Semitism, despite having been twice married to men of Jewish descent and herself forced to leave Austria and live in American exile after the rise of Nazism. She led a life full of excitement, passion, ambition in the limelight of great artists.
