About event
Londýnská street in Vinohrady is a completely original Prague street, which is characterized by its atmosphere and architectural character. In addition to its historical value, it also offers several examples of high-quality apartment buildings from the late 1930s, which represent the pinnacle of functionalist architecture.
The buildings on Londýnská are among the best that were built in Prague at the turn of the 1930s, and fascinating stories are hidden behind their facades - from the stories of the architects who participated in their creation to the fates of the residents of this area. Following Londýnská Street, the walk will continue to the nearby Ječná Street, where participants will see other examples of modern and functionalist architecture.
Platform Modernist Prague - which is supported by architectural historian Adam Štěch, architect Jan Bureš and art historian Kristýna Císařová - invites visitors to a guided tour of a lesser-known layer of the architectural history of this district and a unique street.
Buildings: Apartment buildings in the vicinity of Londýnská Street from 30s by authors such as Václav Kopecký, Jaroslav Vančura, Hilar Pacanovský, Rudolf Hraba, František Maria Černý, Josef Kittrich, Josef Hrubý and others. (The walk does not include a visit to the interiors of the buildings, as they are residential buildings. It can only be visited if it is possible to meet a person who will allow entry).
