About event

Bills have a lot of tradition. We knew them well of military and philharmonic bands originating in the nineteenth century. But the range is wider and dates back to previous centuries. First, in festive and ceremonious contexts. Then, at the end of the classic period, to meet the 'new taste' around the habsburgs in Vienna. They were called Harmonie, these groupings that played transcripts of opera excerpts. At that time, Haydn became interested in the octet formed by pairs of oboes, clarinets, borders and tubes and introduced greater dramatic planning and writing clearance. Already in 1982, Jean Françaix joined the trumpet and double bass to evoke the same Haydn in 11 variations on the main melody of the surprise symphony. In 1906, George Enescu had preferred to gather two flutes to give expression to Bach's influence. Haydn Bill Octet
