The serviceberry is considered one of the rarest and most exciting wild fruits in Austria - and is not called the “Queen of Wild Fruits” for nothing. Together with Norbert Mayer from the Slow Food Presidio Wiesenwienerwald serviceberry, we delve into the world of this extraordinary fruit and find out why it has shaped the cultural landscape of the Vienna Woods for generations.

The focus is on the special features of the serviceberry, its importance for biodiversity and regional food culture, as well as the laborious harvest: The fruits are picked by hand, often on ladders up to 15 meters high - a traditional and demanding process Work that requires a lot of experience, skill and patience.

Accompanying the tasting, Norbert Mayer explains why the serviceberry was recognized as a Slow Food Presidio and provides insights into the work surrounding the preservation of this rare fruit, which is now considered an important part of the culinary heritage of the Wiesenwienerwald.
