The Roter Veltliner is one of the oldest and rarest grape varieties in Austria. It has found a home for centuries in the Wagram wine-growing region and is now maintained and further developed by committed organic winemakers.

As a Slow Food Presidio, the Roter Veltliner Donauterrassen stands for biodiversity, craftsmanship quality and the preservation of a valuable culinary cultural heritage.

But the focus is not only on the past. Together we will also explore the question of why Roter Veltliner has great potential for the future. For many winemakers, its adaptability and resilience make it an exciting answer to the challenges of climate change and an important building block for diverse and resilient viticulture.

In this tasting workshop, participants learn about the history and special features of this extraordinary grape variety and find out why, despite its long tradition, it is now one of the rarest white wine varieties in Austria. The focus is on the three regions of origin of the Presidio as well as the so-called “farm lines” of the winemakers involved. They make it clear how individual companies interpret Roter Veltliner. In addition, the quality levels are presented and explained how they help to make origin, quality and transparency understandable for consumers.

Selected Roter Veltliner from three regions, wines of different quality levels and examples from various farm lines of the participating winemakers will be tasted together.At a glance:
