"The most important thing is how you walk through the fire." - Charles Bukowski
The exhibition »Burn, Baby, Burn« brings together three prominent authors from the AVU environment - two individual painters and one female sculptor - in the blaze of an intense exhibition. The theme of fire, mortality and passion pervades their works as a heat that simultaneously destroys and liberates.
🔥 Martin Kolář captures apocalyptic fire as a symbol of destruction and indifference, where humanity drowning in a sea of nuclear flames blindly ignores its own end.
🔥 Roman Košťál presents a melancholic image of ashes and burning, in which after passion only cooling tinder, melancholic reminiscences and chimerical figures of the past.
🔥 Monika Havlíčková condenses fire into sculptures that embody strength, energy and sensuality - from armor and horses to mythical eidoses conjured beyond physical reality.

According to the so-called The "fire triangle" requires three conditions to burn: 1. combustible substance, 2. air, and 3. ignition temperature. In the same way, the exhibition Burn, Baby, Burn will unite three authors from the AVU environment in one blaze of flames - two painters and one sculptor. It is an egocentric triumvirate of different individuals, together forming a chord composed in the most dangerous keys and omens, as Karel Hlaváček (b. Late to the morning) would say, who also wrote poems about black dolphins dying in the fire (b. The underwater forests didn't even tremble ). Heat and cold, life and death, man and woman - these are all counterpoints that can be found in many places in the exhibition's dynamic score.
Kolář captures fire in his works as the backdrop of a war apocalypse, when apathetic humanity bathes in a sea of nuclear flames as carefree as the biblical Susanna in the bath. In the shadows of his charcoal drawings, Košťál elaborates a melancholic simile of ashes and burnout, when after all the passion only the cooling tinder remains, like when anemic dysphoria occurs after an exhausting sexual act. Havlíčk's sculptures then condense fire in matter (armor), in the body (horse), and above all in the lap (Frodit). Let us recall Duchamp's ready-made work L.H.O.O.Q., "elle a chaud au cul", i.e. "he has fire between his legs". matter. Kolář depicts the motifs of assault, abuse and dehumanization in confrontation with aggression, cynicism and blasphemous irony on the other side, where death is seen as child's play. Košťál incorporates into his canvases chimerical mirages of dead figures, especially deceased actors from the black-and-white film era, when each image is not only a nostalgic reminiscence, but also a spiritualist séance. Havlíčková then models the unborn eidoses cursed in the sphere of antiphysis, forever buried under the quicksands of time. So close, and yet so painfully far from earthly existence.
However, the terceto of artists present here defeats death, through the Promethean fire of their work, as when the cremation heat in the Indian Varanasi frees the immortal spirit from the carnal prison of the body ( soma sema). The flame of life will go out once, but the flame of art will not be extinguished by anything – omnia mutantur, nihil interit.
