On behalf of the entire project, We invite you to the next official presentation of the work of art.
Amol K. Patil's new work follows on from the author's long-term involvement in issues of social justice and making visible the voices of Dalits, who are often recognized or silenced by society. In her work, Patil draws on the history and legacy of Dalit resistance in India, while also addressing the pervasive injustice and persistent mechanisms of oppression.
Through the seemingly simple question, "Why does the concept of equality sound different in every country?" the author emphasizes the seriousness hidden in both the reproach and the question, which, it seems, we are no longer willing to ask ourselves. Nowadays, words like "justice" and "equality" are increasingly losing their meaning - as if hanging in the air, without support, pushed to the sidelines. In his work, Patil does not solve this situation, rather he highlights and problematizes it.
Although the work is conceptually based on the social exclusion of Dalits, it is materially related to the Trenčín landscape. The stones on which the question is engraved come from the immediate surroundings of Trenčín, thus setting the work in a local context.
Due to its location in the town hall, the installation expresses more than the aesthetics of resistance, it also creates a network of relationships and tensions. At first glance, the stones appear as a whole, a single mass, but a closer examination reveals a diverse cycle of fragments.
Part of the presentation of this initially compact and massive structure is its gradual dismantling and dispersal. At the end, visitors can take the stones away, which expands the work beyond the exhibition space and penetrates among people, carrying with it a message in the form of an engraved question as a hint and a silent gesture of support in the search for answers to what we together often avoid.
The project will also enrich the public reading with Yogesh Barve (India)

On behalf of the entire Waiting Places project, we invite you to another official presentation of the artwork.
Amol K Patil’s intervention at Trenčín City Hall builds on the artist's long-standing engagement with issues of social justice and the amplification of Dalit voices - voices that are often disregarded or silenced by society.
Although the work conceptually stems from the social exclusion of Dalits, materially it is rooted in the landscape of Trenčín. The stones, engraved with a question, come from the immediate surroundings of the city, situating the work within a local context.
An integral part of the presentation of this initially compact and monumental structure is its gradual dismantling and dispersal. In the end, visitors can take the stones with them, allowing the work to extend beyond the exhibition space and enter the public sphere.
