Vernisáž | Moemi Yamamoto: Everything is connected in dreams

White & Weiss Gallery closes 2024 with a presentation of Moemi Yamamoto, a Japanese artist working in the Czech Republic, entitled Everything is connected in dreams. The exhibition offers a view of a dream world full of emotions and imagination, in which history, cultural influences and personal dream visions are combined into a unique visual language. , which we are used to in our cultural environment. The visual world of the Japanese artist Moemi Yamamoto captivates at first glance. Her works open the door to disturbing situations on the border between dream and reality, in which exteriors merge with interiors and the images are dominated by a wide range of emotions. It creates the illusion of life existing in its own bubble and timelessness. It leads to an introspective experience that transcends the interface of ordinary perception.

The author's first solo exhibition in Slovakia at the White & Weiss Gallery presents a section of her current and constantly evolving painting work. Moemi Yamamoto connects many historical periods, styles and influences, creating a unique, timeless visual language, deeply connected to cultural and artistic heritage. Whether it is a combination of different painting perspectives inspired by Central European Gothic paintings, Japanese ukiyo-e or dreams, or a surrealistic fascination with metamorphoses and (un)consciousness, but also symbolism or emotive natural scenery with melancholic and introspective tones of romanticism.

Moemi Yamamoto (1985, Japan, lives and works in Prague) studied painting at the Tohoku University of Art and Design in Japan and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where she graduated from the studio of Josef Bolf and Jakub Hošek. In 2022, she received the Discovery of the Year award as part of the Awards of the Czech Academy of Visual Arts. She exhibited in galleries and institutions such as SPZ Gallery, Prague, BOLD Gallery, Prague, Span Art Gallery, Tokyo, Nichido Gallery, Tokyo and at art fairs Art Taipei and SWAB Barcelona.
