About event

The opening of the exhibition something and something
Gallery Beseder, Lihovarská 12, Vernissage 29.5. at 19.00
curator: Miroslav Krupička

in the two exhibitions from the 1+1 cycle Beseder introduced two pairs of artists whose relationship was a teacher and pupil. The authors of the new exhibition something and something are two artists who have not known each other until recently. The fact that Petr Nikl and Petr Pelzmann
met at a joint exhibition is a coincidence. There is no teacher and pupil's relationship between them. Both consist of distinctive works, immersed in their separate worlds. Their joint exhibition is the sum of their work: something + something.
Petr Nikl has been on the art scene for 40 years. In the 1980s he exhibited at the so -called confrontations, co -founded the art group of the stubborn. He is considered to be the most versatile artist because they form in the field of fine art, music, literature/poetry and theater/performance. He holds the award in the field of art
(Jindřich Chalupecký Award) and literary (Magnesia Litera). He has released several records, designs and produces his own musical instruments, creates puppets with which he performs in poetic theater performances. He draws pictures for children, scenery for his performances, paints flowers and natural motifs,
poetic abstraction and surrealistic scenes. At the current exhibition, he presents portraits inspired by Baroque painting, whose central motive is the dichotomy of man - an animal. Peter is another nature. He paints more spontaneously, rich colors and strong brushes, as if he wanted to quickly put what he lives and why he lives on the canvas ... He says he is based on his painting on the history of fine arts and observing everyday situations, portraits specific people. He looks at the world as a picture folder and his work is a kind of diary. "Every picture is a fight," says Peter, but at the same time perceives work as a therapy, something that he cannot be without. In front of the canvas it stands daily, with an enthusiasm for painting is persistent. According to him, the best images arise in one session. Therefore, all the exhibited paintings were created immediately before the exhibition. But Peter's work is more urgent, its contours coarser, some paintings are close to the concept of art-brut. His relationship with Peter Nikl is best to describe the term
contrasting. And that's what this exhibition is about.
