About event
We invite you to the opening of the collective exhibition cruise in the liquid time.
When? Thursday 24. April at 18:00
Where? Ján Koniark Gallery, Koppelova Villa, Green Breed 3, Trnava
The exhibition Cruise in the liquid time presents the works of contemporary Slovak visual art, which work with pictures of cruise and nautic motifs. Imagination and metaphor of water, fluidity and cruise are currently richly developed in diverse contexts, discourse and genres. Since the cruise is, despite the risk of shipwreck based on the hope of reaching the port, and its expected success depends on orientation and navigation, it becomes an essential image of seeking the right direction, maintaining the course and justification of the meaning of effort to resist variables, unfavorable and often unpredictable circumstances. As cruise is a metaphor of human existence, the interpretation of its images naturally lead us to reflections on meaning and values.
The authors and authors thematize cruises through various pictorial media and authorial strategies, while the visualization of navigation is now commented on by the spectrum of existential, ecological, political and social problems. Thinking about cruising, as a movement reflecting living, always forces us to think of our own position and perspective from which we look at the world. It confronts us with the radical need for the description of the situation: where we are, what are the navigation and navigation conditions, landmarks, and what is our expected goal. The suggestiveness, durability and potential of the nautic metaphors lies in their ability to update, especially with fundamental changes in society. The exhibition is therefore conceived as an invitation to follow transformation, updates and numerous reinterpretation of the meanings of the archaic image of the cruise at the current “liquid” time.
