About event
We invite you to the opening of Silvia Krivošíková's exhibition Waiting for a Miracle on Tuesday, October 28 at 6 p.m.
Silvia Krivošíková's solo exhibition Waiting for a Miracle captures old memories, brings a disturbing atmosphere or a range of emotions, but mainly comments on what the author is currently experiencing.
The selection from the series of paintings from the years 2024-2025 reflects the gradual inclination towards the full-scale depiction of figurative scenes. We follow solitary self-portraits or larger groups of figures. From psychologizing and exploring the inner world of the individual, we naturally move to mutual relationships and collective stories.
The work of Silvia Krivošíková, a Slovak painter working in Vienna, has always been personal. It does not depict large global themes, preferring to process the most intimate memories and experiences. The author draws and paints what is in front of her, around her, but often mainly inside herself. Through gradual development in recent years, it has moved from reduced forms, geometric shapes and stylized figures to an environment of more comprehensive figurative painting, which is dominated by complex figurative compositions, landscape scenes or significant domestic kitchen still lifes referring to specific places, characters and situations.
Personal contact with the author's current works reveals an exceptional work with colors and structures that become autonomous carriers of emotions. Muted tones intermingle with the saturation of blue and green or small accents of warm red, ocher and yellow. Night scenes evoke melancholy, tension or heavy romantic spleen. Working with pasty colors and painterly textures gives the works tangible expressiveness and at the same time dynamism in relatively calm scenes. Waiting for a miracle invites us to find light in the darkness and to look for beauty even where it doesn't seem to exist.
Silvia Krivošíková (1976, Zvolen) lives and works in Vienna. In the years 1998 – 2004, she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava at the Department of Glass under doc. J. Gavulu and in the studio of K.R.E.S.B.A. prof. V. Popovich. In 2003, she completed a study stay at the Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto in Portugal, where she subsequently worked for several years. In 2008, she co-founded Kubik Gallery there.
She has exhibited independently at Pekelné sáné Gallery, Kroměříž, Trafo Gallery, Prague, Pistori Palace, Bratislava, Petr Novotný Gallery, Prague, Kubik Gallery, Porto and elsewhere. She participated in several group exhibitions at home and abroad - among others in the Nitra Gallery, Vojtech Löffler Museum, Košice, Ján Koniark Gallery, Trnava, Kunstraum 16, Vienna, Spot Gallery, Prague, Kalina Gallery, Brno and others.
