The exhibition Medzičasom is the second intervention at Rozkvet Gallery as part of the exhibition plan for the year 2026. Jozef Mnich presents his current work in a separate exhibition, in which he explores the boundaries of painting and graphic media and their free transition. The selection includes subtle and medium formats presented as author's experiments reporting on the theme of memory.
Jozef Mnich (1997) is a graduate of the Master's studies at the Department of Graphics and Other Media of the University of Applied Sciences in Bratislava. In his free work, he combines the principles of painting and graphics, through which he processes personal and social themes. He creates diverse color compositions that are layered both formally and materially, as well as ideologically and meaningfully. Sometimes in the depicted scenes he works with play, irony, exaggeration and finely tuned folk motifs, at other times he creates tension and disrupts the usual. The principles that define his longer-term practice also appear in the Medzičasom exhibition. They are experiments encoding and partially revealing multiple planes, plans, themes, symbols, attributes, techniques and layers. Current in relation to time, memory and memories.
The exhibition Medzičasom works with a kind of diary form of visual records, memory and its linearity – non-linearity, forgetting and the emergence of memories. The motifs of banal objects and ephemeral situations of everyday life become a source for deeper investigation. They are layered in the form of different experiences, fragments, overlapping motifs and surfaces. They enter into mutual relations analogous to the process of memory, in which the past is continuously updated in flashes of the present. In the meantime, it appears as a map of an open structure in which experience is stored, rewritten, but also disappears and escapes.
