Nicholas Wintzler's visual language has long drawn from the marginal areas of meme culture, the disintegrating positions of the digital image, and the Internet manifestations of the broader cultural movement of the so-called postiron. The Migrating Text exhibition presents a series of visual and audiovisual works in which Wintzler's interest shifts from photogrammetry (3D models of objects from 2D images) to working with simple photoshop, with an emphasis on intuitive aesthetics and a vast field of intertextual references. Wintzler's method is recognizable but never repetitive and predictable. His works invite to an experience that questions established norms of perception of signs and their association lines, while even the more monothematically appearing images and videos allow for multiple responses and confusion. In the art of Nicholas Wintzler, one can find an engaged commentary, but also an insoluble consonance of knowledge, diverse bodies of digital existence and affects that saturate both creative and installation gestures. migrating text is his fourth solo exhibition.
Nicholas Wintzler (*1999) is a multidisciplinary artist, musician and performer. He studies at the New Media Studio under the direction of Erik Sikora and Boris Vaitović at the Faculty of Arts of the Technical University in Košice. It works mainly in the areas of photography, video, music and text, and also actively connects these media. In his artistic work, he integrates elements of humor, nonsense, poetry, social commentary, personal mythology and the overlap between low and high art. He presented his own exhibitions in Brno (FaVU Gallery), in Bratislava (Central European House of Photography), in Košice (Tabačka Gallery) and exhibited as a group in Trnava (GJK, SKÚTER VI.) and Prešov (Regional Gallery). The Migrating Text exhibition is part of the author's long-term project Intermediálny Literát, in which, through texts and photographs, he explores the relationship between post-ironic humor, poetry, engagement, and generally between art and internet content.
