Loosening in Hold
Opening: 24/07/2026, 19:00
duration of the exhibition: 25/07–29/08/2026
Curator: Viktória Pardovičová
Participation of the author in the exhibition plan of the gallery in 2026 is part of the group exhibition project Memories of Matter.
The geological process of meeting heterogeneous masses, forming agglomerates as entities, which arise on the basis of the connection of originally foreign types of materials, becomes the starting point of the exhibition of the Czech visual artist Magdalena Šimurdová. It is a state of binding under pressure, bindings that are incongruous and often contrasting. It is a combination of rocks, minerals and other sediments, which, despite being a functional unit, continues in the process of continuous splitting and disintegration during its life. These conglomerates build cohesive relationships, but their elements nevertheless retain parts of their individual character. Here, chemical and physical conflicts are always dependent on the conditions of specific ecosystems, and the substance of their relationships or dependencies draws from the memory of processes hidden beneath the surface.
The author refers to the abilities of geological materials, but also plants and other organic life forms, such as lichens or algae, which can create stable forms of collective bodies and interconnected cycles, and at the same time preserve their original individuality. Their disintegration or disruption does not necessarily mean loss, but another stimulating transformation. Relationships and mutual contamination arise here in random contact and tense communication, but they condition the ability to preserve memory and the resilience of microworlds, which could be a contrast to societies formed by a system of pressure for success and an ideal dogmatic form, desire, stereotyping or destruction of relational sincerity.
Magdalena Šimurdová is a visual artist working in Brno, where she completed her studies at FaVU in the Spatial Creation studio. In his work, he focuses on spatial installations and objects, referring to the principles of speculative alchemy or the concept of decolonization of materials. He observes geomorphological and biological processes, which he perceives as models of transformation, connection and interaction. She is interested in relational fields and metaphors of shared experience across human and more-than-human systems. Through them, he articulates alternative relational networks and non-hierarchical forms of organization that disrupt binary categories and open space for more permeable definitions of individual positions. It focuses on material research and by connecting various elements, their meanings, memories and processes of transformation, investigates the emergence of hybrid forms and relational configurations. Magdalena Šimurdová's work was presented at her solo exhibitions in Zaazrak Dornych, Postpost gallery (2025), Galeria Umakart (2026) or as part of group exhibitions in TIC - Gallery of Young People (2023), (A)VOID gallery (2023), OFF/Format Gallery (2025) and Galeria Lázně Liberec (2026) and others.

The group exhibition project Memories of Matter networks parallel perspectives and authorial approaches that work with the themes of temporality, material and visual memory, technological imagination and the mutability of reality. Rozkvet Gallery gradually presents individual author participations.
