About event
Bratislava City Gallery invites you to the opening of the exhibition Being nature, on Wednesday, January 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the Mirbach Palace.
"I want to work with pure principles. I think that shapes in themselves have their own strong psychological expression, with which they act. For example, angular, sharp, inorganic shapes express coldness; round, organic shapes express warmth, the touching round shapes can evoke a feeling of gentle touch, embrace... perhaps even erotic feelings." Maria Bartuszová
The exhibition develops the theme of the relationship between man and nature through a holistic approach. She explores abstract, geometric and biomorphic shapes, while also reflecting on the themes of ecology and feminism. Nature was an essential part of the author's creative thinking; the idea of the world as an infinite space, a universe that manifests itself creatively. From the beginning of her sculptural work, Maria Bartuszová (1936 – 1996) dealt with natural phenomena and cycles, such as rain, wind, and later melting snow. She portrayed their variable and temporary nature, movement, temporality, rhythm and power, which she plastically captured into a stiff, solid shape and mass in the shape of raindrops, grains or eggs.
The exhibition focuses on haptic jigsaw puzzles made of plaster, but also aluminum or bronze, intended for touching and folding. He also presents Bartuszová as a sculptor who created works for public space, especially in the east of Slovakia, in Košice, Rožňava, Revúca, Tatranská Lomnica or Vyšné Ružbachy. Haptic puzzles acquired their full meaning during one of the first workshops of their kind in our country. They were intended for visually impaired children from the Elementary School for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Levoča in 1976 and 1983. They were organized and documented by Gabriel Kladek. The exhibition therefore develops a performative perception of art in the form of workshop activities that show Bartuszova's intention to create art connected to everyday life.
