About event
The international discussion HUMAN FORUM on democracy and human rights, in cooperation with the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, prepared an accompanying exhibition project in participation with the students of the Faculty of Fine Arts. XI. The HUMAN FORUM edition (19-21 November 2024) has the theme: Strengthening democracy and civil society in the 21st century. The initiator of the forum is the civic platform NOT IN OUR CITY in Banská Bystrica.

The term "demo" from the English the words "demonstration" = "sample", associates the first work of a young artist. The exhibition is a parallel between the demo version of democracy and the authorship that bears it.
Screen printing, book, large-format painting, virtual reality, combined techniques, spatial creation and video art are the focus of the exhibition project Demo 21. Multimedia and the engaged creation of art university students is a response to an open call in which we were looking for works that help deepen awareness of basic values in a democratic society and works that call for respect and reverence for human rights. We were looking for work that sensitizes and at the same time raises questions, points out shortcomings and negative social phenomena at home and abroad, looks for solutions including prevention and deradicalization, and contributes to the spread of tolerance in society.
The exhibition project does not avoid critical questions. nor polemics, but at the same time it offers a space for discussion about how democracy can be understood, sustained and practiced by new generations, where art becomes a tool for expressing civic engagement and reflection. Demo 21 is not only an exhibition, but also a platform for social dialogue and thinking about the current form of democratic values.

19. 11. 2024 at 18:30 with the participation of the rector of AU BB, Michal Murin.
📍 Venue:
premises of the ceremonial hall of the historic Banská Bystrica City Hall, Námestie SNP 1, 974 01.
❗️The exhibition will only be available to registered visitors due to capacity constraints.
The exhibition was supported by the Rotary club of Banská Bystrica.
