Denisa Slavkovská's exhibition in the Artoteka Gallery in Bratislava, entitled Afterparty in an Empty Room, loosely follows on from the Midnight Correspondence project, but moves its original tension and narrative of the "crime scene" to a different situation - to the space after the event.
The author further develops her visual language based on interiors, known objects and fragmentary traces of the plot, which have already they do not act as a record of a specific action, but rather as its reverberation and memory. Disturbing absurdity and latent irony are transformed here into a calmer, introspective plane, in which the image becomes a state of perception and inner space.
The exhibition includes works from the Salty Sugar series, which move the author's handwriting towards material and meaning layering, as well as two completely new large-format paintings.
While the Midnight Correspondence worked with sound and feeling of an invisible presence, Afterparty in an empty room functions as its post-action – a muted continuation in which the emphasis shifts to greater inner peace, comfort and conscious handling of space.
The exhibition thus opens up the situation "after everything", in which traces of events turn into a space for interpretation, memory and silent reconstruction of original meanings.

About the author:
Denisa Slavkovská was born in Poprad. She began her university studies at the Faculty of Arts at TUKE in Košice under the guidance of Prof. PhDr. Peter Rónai, acad. mal., completed various internships, for example, at the Academy of Arts in Krakow or Zlín. She successfully completed her master's degree at the Department of Painting at VŠVU in 2020. She has had dozens of individual and group exhibitions, such as at the Q contemporary gallery in Budapest, Lite-hus Galérie + Projektraum in Berlin, Port Creative hub in Kyiv, Gallerie Michael Bella in Vienna, Galerie Emil Filla in Ústí nad Labem
, Artfair The others in Turin with Blu: gallery and many others. She completed a residency in Ukraine through KAIR (Košice Artist in Residence), in 2019 she became a finalist for the EXIT award, in 2021 and 2024 she was a finalist for the VÚB painting of the year award, and in 2022 and 2023 she was on the longlist of the Strabag Artaward International award. He has been researching the topic of the body and physicality for a long time. From psychological states, through the intimate experience of physiological sensations, to the investigation of shape and color as an expressive element. In her paintings, biomorphic matter comes to life in almost surrealistic compositions and dimensions and subtly whispers its personal story. In the latest
series, he naturally moves to objects that surround, deform or otherwise affect the body. Her interest shifts to still lifes talking about a person without his presence.
