About event
Dear art lovers,
allow us to invite you to the exhibition and to the opening of the exhibition:
GOOD DAY MR DIENTZENHOFER
Baroque principles in contemporary art
which will take place on Thursday 16/07/2025 from 18:00 to 22:00 at the Portheimka Gallery, Štefánikova 12, Prague 5.
The group exhibition Hello, Mr. Dientzenhofer reacts to the baroque spaces of Prague's Portheimka and thus pays tribute to this architectural gem and its creator, Kilian Ignac Dientzenhofer. Centuries later, the building will come back to life with a baroque atmosphere, but from the point of view of contemporary art. The viewer will be confronted with fundamental themes that the visual artists living at the time of the creation of the Smích villa emphasized in their work. What do themes of intense spirituality, realistic physicality or strong reminders of the transience of human life look like in the work of contemporary artists? Which Baroque artists do contemporary authors pay tribute to and in what way? How much do baroque themes change when they are translated into contemporary forms of expression and materials? Do baroque themes still have something to say to us? Are they able to appeal to the twenty-first century viewer?
Eighteen artists were invited to the baroque spectacle against the backdrop of dark light, who have long devoted themselves to the principles or characteristic themes of baroque art in their work:
Karel Balcar, Jiří Černický, Patrik Hábl, Matouš Háša, Václav Jirásek, Tomáš Kubík, Igor Makarevič, Hynek Martinec, Jan Mikulka, Ivan Pinkava, Viktor Pivovarov, Magdalena Roztočilová, Zbyněk Sedlecký, Martin Skalický, Jakub Špaňhel, Richard Štipl, Margita Titlová Ylovsky and Martin Velíšek
curator: Kristýna Jirátová, Máša Pivovarová
graphics for the exhibition: Eva Rampich
The exhibition will last from 17/07/2025 to 4/10/2026.
We look forward to meeting you Yours!

Dear Art Lovers,
We are pleased to invite you to the exhibition and opening reception of:
GOOD DAY, MR. DIENTZENHOFER
Baroque Principles in Contemporary Art
The opening reception will take place on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Galerie Portheimka, Štefánikova 12, Prague 5.
The group exhibition *Good Day, Mr. Dientzenhofer* responds to the Baroque interiors of Portheimka in Prague and pays tribute to this architectural gem and its creator, **Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer**. After centuries, the building will once again come alive with a Baroque atmosphere—this time through the lens of contemporary art.
Visitors will encounter key themes that artists living during the construction of the Smíchov villa emphasized in their work. How do motifs of intense spirituality, realistic corporeality, or stark reminders of the transience of human life appear in the work of contemporary artists? Which Baroque masters do today's artists pay homage to, and in what ways? How are Baroque themes transformed when translated into contemporary forms of expression and materials? Do these themes still have something to tell us today? Can they speak to a twenty-first-century audience?
Eighteen artists whose work has long engaged with the principles and characteristic themes of Baroque art have been invited to participate in this Baroque spectacle set against a backdrop of dramatic chiaroscuro:
Karel Balcar, Jiří Černický, Patrik Hábl, Matouš Háša, Václav Jirásek, Tomáš Kubík, Igor Makarevich, Hynek Martinec, Jan Mikulka, Ivan Pinkava, Viktor Pivovarov, Magdalena Roztočilová, Zbyněk Sedlecký, Martin Skalický, Jakub Špaňhel, Richard Štipl, Margita Titlová Ylovsky, and Martin Velíšek
Curator: Kristýna Jirátová, Máša Pivovarová
Graphic Design: Eva Rampich
The exhibition will run from July 17, 2026, to October 4, 2026.
We look forward to welcoming you!
