About event
On the occasion of International Roma Day, which we commemorate every 8th April, we invite you to the opening of the exhibition of the Gallery of Roma Personalities with an interpretation of curator Adriana Daneková.
The opening will be associated with a discussion with Vlad Rafael, the founder of the Eduroma organization and Julia Vrábľová, linguist and translator of the book Elena Lacková I was born under a happy star.

🟡 Mgr. et Mgr. Adriana Daneková
Curator of the Slovak National Museum in Martin - Museum of Roma Culture in Slovakia (MKRNS). As a historian, in the framework of the professional focus, she has so far specialized in the life and position of the Roma in society in the period of the 1st of Czechoslovakia and in the period of World War II, as well as the active participation of the Roma in the resistance during World War II. In the area of traditional aspects of culture of groups of Roma living in Slovakia, she focused mainly on craft and homemade production, culinary culture and clothing culture. She also dealt with the issue of cultural rights of national minorities. She is the author of many independent MKKNS exhibitions and co -author of the permanent exposition of MKKNS.
🟡 Júlia Vrábľová
Linguistics at the Department of Social Linguistics at the Linguistics Institute Ľ. Štúr SAS and employee at the Ministry of Education. She is a member of the Committee of Experts of the Council of Europe for minority or regional languages and represents Slovakia in the European Federation of National Language Institutions. She translated the book Elena Lacková I was born under a happy star and co-published the first Roma-Slovak working textbook Alice and Doda.
🟡 Vlado Rafael
O.z. Eduroma. He worked for 7 years at the Open Society Foundation in Bratislava as an expert consultant for education. He is the author and editor of several professional studies and research works dedicated to the problems of educational policy and education of Roma children. After 1989, the social status of the Roma in Slovakia also captures in its documentary films: Roma 25 years after… and your time. In 2012 he founded the educational organization Eduroma, which he still leads. In May 2016, he was awarded the US Embassy Award in Slovakia for the protection of human rights Human Rights Defender Award. The exhibition of the Gallery of Roma Personalities is a reminder of 25 exceptional people who rank among the Elite of the Roma Community in Slovakia and their successes are worthy of following.
The duration of the exhibition: 7. - 25. The Slovak National Museum is a state contributory organization established by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic.
