About event
We invite you to the opening of the exhibition Other routes by Dušan Scholtz
Galleria na schodoch (GnS), Hodžova 1, Nitra
Foyer gallery (GF) of the K. Spišák Old Theater in Nitra, Ul. 7th Infantry Regiment 1, Nitra
30. 3. 2026 at 4:30 p.m. in the Stairs Gallery and at 5:30 p.m. in the Foyer Gallery in the Old Theater.
A double exhibition of the unique Košice painter and artist Dušan Scholtz (*1974) in two places simultaneously with different themes of works that, with their poetics and emotional charge of the subjects of ordinary people from ordinary environments, follow the masters of figurative painting of Košice modernity. Although his characters have a touch of picturesqueness or strange mischief, on the other hand, they carry the hidden sadness of folk philosophers, but also the oozing wounds of the tragedy of the Holocaust (GF).
His victims are dedicated to a series called Different Trains in the recurring motif of wagons, inspired by the minimalist musical work of Steve Reich (GnS). Her story is made up of collages, the basis of which are accounting stamps as a symbol of bureaucracy and austere, apparent order as opposed to human suffering. Feld's train is connected to the story of Ľudovít Feld (1904–1991), an artist from Košice, who was deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1944. In it, thanks to his drawing talent, he was forced to become a chronicler of Mengele's brutal experiments (GF).
