About event
We cordially invite you to the exhibition of Jiří Mark Palimps, which represents painting as a space for reflection of memory, time and image perception. The physical work for him is not a formal relic, but a way to re -establish the relationship between the eye, hand and memory - how to touch reality. He carefully examines each shard of reality, not to restore it to its original form, but to even further expose the traces of its wear. His fascination with ruins and the effort to fix disintegration through a painting reflects the uncertainty of our existence, but also the desire to penetrate the essence of things and through the past to see our present and future through the past. Like parchment manuscripts, where new records have never completely erased the previous ones, Mark's paintings show layers of meanings that permeate each other. Each canvas carries traces of the process, shortcut and fragmentation of memory - and traces of the author's own corrections and returns to work.

In an Age When Images Circuit Through the Digital World at the Speed of Data Flow and Disappear Before We Can Tula Perceive Theme, Jiří Marek Turns to Painting Above All As An Act of Grounding. For Him Drawing from Both Personal and Collective Conscent. Each Fragment of Reality He Examines Carefully, Not to Restore Its Original Form, But Rather to Further Expose of Its Wear. HIS FASCINATION WITH RUINS AND HIS EFFORT TO FIX DECAY THROUGH Painterly Record Reflect the Uncertainty of Oour existence, but the desire to penetrate the Essence of Things and Through the Past Inspiration Also Draws on the Concept of the Palimps, Introduced to Art History by American Theorist Douglas Crimp. Just as On Parchment Manuscripts Where New Inscriptions Never Fully Eraseed the Earlier Ones, Marek’s Paintings Reveal Layers of Meaning That Permeate One Another.
