Twilight. Dimming. Darkness hiding the surrounding contours. Diminishing space visible to the eye. Nitro that fights with more and more weight. Heart-wrenching anxiety. The exposure of the most vulnerable parts of the human being. Heaviness instinctively drawn to the ground. The stability of the earth's surface overgrown with grass. Giving life to plants and trees. Sending energy to snowdrops that glow even in the dark. Giving hope with its fragility that the light will come again. The light that shines through the darkness.
In her works, Laura Limbourg works with the motif of darkness, which envelops a human being in states of depression. The nudity in her paintings reveals the true essence of a person without masks, roles or pretense, in their deepest vulnerability. The surrounding nature is a conscious way for her to find balance again. And the motif of ubiquitous snowdrops sprouting from the grass or hidden in palms refers to the hope that spring always comes after winter, a fresh start.
The themes that say so much about today's society, its setting, the search for meaning and the return to the roots have been developed by Laura Limbourg since her studies at Oxford. We often find her herself in her paintings. Thus, as an artist, she does not only take the role of an observer, but also a fully interested human being. Self-portrait, eyes full of fear, hands covering the face, moths, butterflies and dreams. Laura Limbourg reveals (not only) her insecurities and deep fears. He paints directly on unpainted canvases, immediately without preparatory sketches, he often uses diluted colors, the layering, blending or absorption of which frees the motifs on the canvas from their literal descriptiveness. On the contrary, they gain authenticity in this way. The artifice of today's world is disappearing. What remains is finding, losing and finding yourself.
