MOVING GROUNDS
Marta Djourina & Rita Koszorús

Opening: Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 6:00 p.m.
Curator: Viktória Pardovičová

The Moving Grounds exhibition at the Station Gallery represents a joint project of visual artists Marta Djouriny and Rita Koszorús. Their multi-media work is presented for the first time in a dialogue with each other, through a site-specific installation, which arose during their discussions about history, identity, the desire for movement and the emigration syndrome, which are inherent in post-socialist societies and the artistic generation growing up during the nineties. Both authors are united by the theme of the changeability of the environments and places where they live, the continuous search for home, as well as the need to travel and the ability (necessity and determination) to adapt in new, unstable conditions. In their work, they also deal with more intimate themes of personal identity and sensitivity to changes brought about by the different social contexts of the countries of their origin and temporary presence (Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic). The project works with a spatial installation – it combines and confronts the painting, collage and textile objects of Rita Koszorús with specific analog photographic exposures created without the use of Marta Djourina's camera. Thus, in layers and often expressive juxtapositions, the exhibition represents a metaphor for places of constant transfer - movement and alertness, which are station or airport halls - concentrates of new expectations, fleeting moments, but also frozen time, restless nervousness and determination to change. The works shed the aspects of concrete shapes, break the boundaries of a clearly defined medium and expand into physical space. They become part of the architecture of the exhibition - the space-time of transport, search and reflection of the subjective experiences of the authors, which communicate the common need for discovery and the determination to accept the unstable conditions associated with travel. However, their moving everyday life is also accompanied by a gradual realization of the value of the intimate world, the background, as well as the acceptance of the current enchanted reality, which in contrast to the constant lust of cultural and social systems conditions an ever higher degree of courage, balancing and resistance.

The exhibition Moving Grounds at Station Gallery presents a joint project by visual artists Marta Djourina and Rita Koszorús. Their multi-media practices are presented together for the first time, in a mutual dialogue through a site-specific installation that the artists developed during a series of talks on history, identity, movement longing and emigration syndrome, inherent to post-society societies and the artist's generation who grew up during the 1990s. Both artists are connected by a shared interest in the transience of environments and places in which they live, the continuous search for home, as well as the need to travel and the ability (necessity and determination) to adapt to new and unstable conditions. In their work, both Marta and Rita address more intimate themes of personal identity and sensitivity to change, shaped by the differing social contexts of the countries of their origin and current presence (Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic). The project operates through a spatial installation, combining and confronting Rita Koszorús's paintings, collages, and textile objects with Marta Djourina's unique camera-less analogue photographic exposures. The exhibition, through its layering and often expressive juxtapositions, creates a metaphor for places of perpetual transition—movement and readiness embodied by station and airport halls, clusters of new expectations, fleeting moments, as well as frozen time, the restlessness, and determination towards change. The artworks shed the aspects of concrete form, disrupt the boundaries of clearly defined media, and expand into physical space. They become part of the exhibition's architecture—a spatio-temporal field of transport, searching, and reflection on the artists' subjective experiences. These experiences express a shared need for discovery and a resolve to embrace the instability inherent in travel. At the same time, their shifting everyday life is accompanied by a growing awareness of the value of intimacy, grounding, and the gradual acceptance of the contemporary disenchanted reality—a process which, in contrast to the incessant desires of cultural and social systems, demands ever greater degrees of courage, balance, and resistance. minorities.
