About event

Dear art lovers, we are happy to invite you to the new Chemistry prints space in the center of Prague and to Prokop Bartoníček's exhibition "Shards", the opening of which will take place here on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the new Chemistry Prints space in Lucerne at Štěpánská 61! With this event, we will also open this space to the public for the first time.

The Střepy exhibition represents Bartoníček's return to sculptural practice after years dedicated to digital and new media technologies. However, it is not a retreat, but a reassessment: at the moment when images generate themselves and technological production has reached an inflationary point, the physical material becomes a site of resistance.

The chosen material is cast iron, the processing of which requires a lengthy process of translation from gesture to form to casting. The surfaces of the objects bear traces of expressive shaping — a calligraphic gesture translated into three-dimensional matter. The shapes are dynamic, ephemeral — ripples, fragments, shards of captured movement. However, the material is massive, definitive.

We look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,
The Chemistry Gallery and Chemistry Prints

Dear art lovers, we are delighted to invite you to the new Chemistry Prints space in the heart of Prague and to Prokop Bartoníček's exhibition “Shards,” whose opening will take place on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 7:00 p.m. that 10:00 p.m. at the new Chemistry Prints space in Lucerna at Štěpánská 61! This event will also mark the first time we open this space to the public.

The exhibition Shards marks Bartoníček's return to sculptural practice following years devoted to digital and new-media technologies. Yet this is not a retreat but a reconsideration: as images are generated artificially and we are witnessing an inflation of technological production, physical material has turned into a means of resistance.

The artist has chosen cast iron as a medium, whose processing is lengthy, transforming the artistic gesture through the mold to the final casting. The surfaces of his objects show imprints of expressive shaping — a calligraphic gesture rendered in three-dimensional mass. The forms are dynamic and ephemeral: undulations, fragments, shards of captured movement. The material, on the contrary, is massive and definitive.

We look forward to meeting you!

Warm regards,
The Chemistry Gallery
