About event
The exhibition Rachel Jutky works with painting and installation as equal media, which connects through formal and content manipulation. The author consciously handles the process of folding and stitching as a visual strategy that thematizes the tension between intuition and composition, between everyday life and its aesthetic grip. In the center of her interest is working with format as an active factor in meaning. Fragmentation, stapling and layering of individual elements interfere with the traditional understanding of the image as a closed whole.
Jutka does not work with figuration or direct narrative, but with segments or image bands that layer and shifting into groups create space for reading moments that are personal, but at the same time a collectively recognizable. Jutka draws color from subconscious reactions, but the other layer, consciously built from his own visual archive and spent moments, works with the specificity of personal experience. This two -level approach creates a gentle tension between automatism and conscious articulation.
The exhibition name comes from the automotive industry (mandatory labeling on the US rear -view mirrors), but the phrase has become popular as a cultural metaphor for a distorted perception of distance, memory or past. The name thus creates a dialogue not only with images and objects in the exhibition, but also with their "invisible" content and at the same time a little ironically undermines the Greenberg's idea of the unambiguous readability of the image. The exhibition thus points out the question to what extent the image can be the bearer of the relationship, not just the representation, and how the tension between the image and the object can be used as a way of visual thinking.
The exhibition curator is Štefánia Ďuricová Fri/Reindeer from 14:00 - 18:00. At 16:00 with the participation of the author and curator. Bachelor study completed in Scotland (Moray School of Art; University of the Highlands and Islands, UK). Master's studies in the studio of the painting at the Faculty of Arts in Košice (TUKE) led by doc. Mgr. Art. Ota Hudeca, Artd. At present, he regularly exhibits his work in Slovakia and abroad, at joint or independent exhibitions eg. In the UK, Germany, Bohemia and Hungary (New Contemporaries 2023, Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh;; Another Profile Pic, Šopa Gallery, Košice; Bold Red Line, Vuna, Bratislava Soil Not Oil, Slovak Institute in Prague, and others). The city of Piešťany was supported from the subsidy scheme. We would like to thank the Trnava self -governing region for supporting the culture in the art.
