Vernisáž výstavy Weave Wave: Material Agencies in Motion

The Weave Wave: Material Agencies in Motion exhibition project is designed as an international showcase of visual art and current trends that directly reflect fiber, the philosophy of weaving and the (im)material qualities of various surfaces. In the works, the material is understood as a text that connects not only physical threads but also social, cultural and political codes, deeply connected with the identity of the creator - an artist. The material is not just a tool, but especially an active partner and agent in the process of creation.

The exhibition presents the works of male and female artists across different cultural environments, creative starting points and conceptual strategies. Individual works touch on the themes of gender roles, motherhood, family ties, memory of cultural symbols and archetypes, constructions of time (temporality of everyday life, ritual, biological processes, geological formations, etc.), nature and landscape topology. As a result of the ecological crisis, many exhibited works reflect the theme of a sustainable approach to creation, experiment with used materials, upcycle waste forms, or invent new natural composites.

Structuring methods in the works reveal a kind of internal logic of materials. Threads behave like systems - they organize, layer, dig, accumulate, unravel. This process is also a metaphor for the way our memory, society or nature works. They too are formed by networks of relationships that are constantly renewed, change their location, regroup and transform.

The exhibition is a project of the civil association DeepArtSpace. The partners of the event are the Sculpture Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, the FX Gallery and the Central Slovak Gallery in Banská Bystrica. Part of the exhibition project are cultural and educational events prepared by professionals in the field of gallery pedagogy from the Central Slovak Gallery.
