About event
On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Korea and the second republic of Austria, the exhibition mega Seoul 8 Decades presents the dynamic development of the 600 -year -old South Korean capital. Twelve photographers of different generations document the profound changes that Seoul has undergone since 1945: from reconstruction after the Korean war in the 1950s over the 1960s, when the iconic song Hymn of Seoul (1966) sounded and increasingly shifted to the capital Today's Seoul-a global mega-city. The city shows its photographs in the area of tension between tradition and modernity as well as destruction and new construction.
With individual image languages, the artists grasp the rapid and painful modernization of the ten million city with a range of emotions and attitudes: some with a critical look at the contradictions of urban development, others with irony or distanced soberness. Your snapshots become a polyphonic documentary Seoul and make the transformation visible for the past 80 years. This exhibition enables an examination of the old Seoul, whose traces disappear too quickly, with the contradictions at the time of the hymn of seoul and with the unique energy of this city that swings between vitality and absurdity.
