as Maghreb are called Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. The images shown here were all recorded analogously and were created during a trip through these three countries with a VW Beetle in 1976 and about 20 years later. The first trip was particularly adventurous because my travel companion and I had little idea from what awaited us and our equipment was rather poor. The trigger was the novel by Karl May "through the desert", which we both read as boys. The description of the Schott El Djerid was excellent. In order not to attract attention when taking pictures, we wore a Djellabah with a large hood in inhabited areas. The recordings should actually only be our memory, but since some, I think I was worth seeing, I decided to scan them and print with good quality. The images shown in the gallery are a section of a significantly larger number, but give an impression of the country and people in this area again at this time. The first trip lasted a little longer than three months and left unforgettable impressions.
artist statement:
Photography has not let go of me since my studies and I am still enthusiastic today. The capture of a situation, a special facial expressions of a person or a nice atmosphere in the landscape with just one pressure on the trigger is still exciting so far, later also working in my darkroom, becoming a white sheet for a photo was a faithful. Therefore, the switch to digital cameras was rather late until I could be sure that the quality was good. The learning process was therefore a bit tedious, but today I enjoy the many options and convenience to take a picture from the printer.
