About event
We invite you to a discussion with Slovak journalist Veronika Cosculluel, who in her debut book The shrunken world reveals what the weekdays look behind the walls of Slovak prisons.
What does the first day of a person who just entered the sentence? And what is the one who is going to come to the world that has changed so far? Who do we actually close behind the bars and who are the people who are watching them? The world behind bars is almost invisible to the public and often shrouded in myths or stereotypes from films and series.
Veronika Cosculluel is a Slovak journalist. She grew up in Podkonice near Banská Bystrica. She studied journalism in Bratislava and political sciences in Grenoble and Belgrade. For ten years she was mainly a political editor for various Slovak media, most recently in Plus 7 days. Whenever there was a possibility, instead of talking to politicians, it was pulling her to reports. Thus, it also came to the topic of the prison at a time when a lot of talks about the conditions of people in prisons began to talk during a Covid pandemic in Slovakia. She wondered how people who make this closed system think about this topic. The shriveled world is her debut book.
Roman Švarc will be moderated by the discussion.
The event is part of the Absynt Festival Live 2025, supported by the Public Support Fund - the main partner.
