About event
We invite you to an extraordinary evening of music that is coming back to life after centuries. As part of the Gesamtkunstwerk 2025/2026 concert cycle, spiritual music of the 17th century from Spiš and Italy will be heard - deep, intimate and festive.
Program:
The concert will open with the moving Christmas lullaby "Figlio Dormi" by the Italian master Giovanni Girolamo Kapsperger, virtuoso lutenist and pioneer of the chitarrone.
Follow there will be spiritual compositions by Ján Šimrák senior, organist and city councilor from Spišské Podhradie, whose music is returning to the stage after more than 300 years. In his work, a strong connection with the cultural environment of Spiš and the influence of Venetian polychorality can be felt.
A mass for six voices by the composer Georg Wirsinger, rector of the Latin school in Spišská Nová Ves - testimony to the rich musical life of the towns of Spiš.
The end of the concert belongs to Kapsperger's pastoral "Il Pastori di Bettelemme", which will be heard in the Slovak premiere. Shepherds await the arrival of the Messiah, an angel announces good news to them - and the music tells their story through the beautiful colors of baroque instruments: baroque harp, chitarrone, psaltery, organ, harpsichord, lirone and baroque bagpipes.
The concert will take place thanks to the support of the SPP Foundation and the Slovakian Railway Company.
