Theme Burendag 2025: 375 years Eastern Islands

We stand on the shoulders of those who preceded us as islanders. It all started in 1650, now exactly 375 years ago with the construction of Kattenburg, Wittenburg and Oostenburg. This allows the eastern islands to be exactly half the 750 years that Amsterdam is celebrating this year. As proud islanders we fought for the preservation of heritage: recruiting and warehouses (part of an important shipbuilding center), but there is also fighting for the preservation of homes for residents in this neighborhood. As proud islanders now, originating from different corners of the Netherlands and the world, we feel involved in our neighborhood. We celebrate that together on Burendag
In the Huis van de Buurt: De Witte Boei and on Marie Altelaarplein we organize various activities on Sunday 28 September 2025 from 1 pm to 8 pm, including Sciandri and workshops where we ensure that there is something for all ages. Our traditional tug of war will not be missing.
There is a lot of music: from classical rock, the island choir, gospel choir from the neighborhood and a neighborhood band with Caribbean music. There will also be a DJ who is very interactively going to dance, young and old! Like every year, we also have poetry and stories that are recited. And our neighborhood documentary maker will show her documentary about the history of the neighborhood. This will be shown 3 times in the main hall in the community center. The little ones can enjoy cotton candy and the whirligig, there is also bingo for the elderly. There will be various stalls where organizations and entrepreneurs from the neighborhood present themselves. We end the day with music (again) and a world kitchen dinner.
