About event
An exceptional jazz event of the summer: Visegrad Jazz Orchestra joins forces with Peter Lip and Martin Valihor in Bratislava
Lovers of quality music and jazz can look forward to one of the highlights of this year's summer cultural season. Already on July 1, 2026, the culmination of the Visegrad Jazz Orchestra 2026 international project will take place in the Cultural Center of Bratislava - Nové Mesto. A unique 18-member big band made up of the musical elite of the Vyšehrad Four countries will be presented together with special guests - the legend of the Slovak jazz scene Peter Lip and the world-renowned drummer Martin Valihor.
The connection of tradition. and young blood under the baton of the master
The artistic direction of the project is covered by the renowned guitarist, composer and conductor Matúš Jakabčic. Under his baton, the orchestra will present an energetic and exciting program that is a perfect fusion of the tradition of modern big band jazz and the innovative original work of contemporary composers from the V4 countries.
"The Vyšehrad Jazz Orchestra is proof that jazz musicians understand the same language regardless of their nationality," reads the main message of this unique grouping.
A space for young talents and the premiere winning works
The gala evening will also include the evaluation of the international composition competition, which is intended for young authors under the age of 35. Concertgoers will experience a unique opportunity to hear the winning compositions in the world premiere, directly in the top interpretation of the Visegrad Jazz Orchestra.
Author: Łukasz Ciesiołkiewicz – Intermarium, author, Polish composer, winner of the Grand Prix from the international competition in Bucharest and leader of the EAST ensemble. In his work, he masterfully combines jazz, classical music, folklore elements and sound engineering.
Lóránt Péch (read Péč) – V4, Hungarian pianist and producer. A graduate of Budapest's Liszt Ferenc Academy, who recently shone at the Müpa Jazz Showcase. In his work, Lóránt brilliantly combines modern jazz with elements of electronic music. The composition V4 is a demonstration of his ability to transform technical precision into deep emotions.
Václav Pálka – Glimpses of the Shadow's Faint Echoes, drummer and composer, working in Basel, Switzerland. Václav has collaborated with stars such as Mark Turner and Jeff Ballard. His music is a fascinating intersection between jazz tradition and modern arranging techniques for a large jazz orchestra.
This exceptional project, which has been operating since 2014, is one of the most important platforms for the development of jazz cooperation in Central Europe. It was created and is realized with the support of the International Visegrad Fund.
