French touches in the Cathedral
On Friday, July 31, 2026 at 7:30 p.m., in the Cathedral of St. František Xaverského on Námestí SNP in Banská Bystrica, an extraordinary festival program for organ and accordion - French touch will be heard.
The French Touch program represents a unique combination of organ and classical accordion – two instruments with a surprisingly similar ability to create rich color surfaces, wide dynamics and vocal cantilenes.
Marie-Andrée Joerger and Vincent Dubois are based on a common interest in orchestral and chamber music transcriptions music and through their own arrangements they reveal the new sound possibilities of this unconventional instrument combination.
The focus of the program is French music of the period of Romanticism, Impressionism and musical modernity. Works by Debussy, Fauré, Bartók are complemented by improvisations on themes by Galliano, Caratini or Piazzolla. The result is a colorful musical mosaic in which the elegance of the French style is intermingled with dance vitality and poetic lyricism.
Marie-Andrée Joerger is one of the most outstanding personalities of contemporary classical accordion. As a soloist and chamber player, she regularly performs at major international festivals and concert stages, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Philharmonie de Paris, Konzerthaus Berlin, Tonhalle Zürich and the Vienna Konzerthaus. She has collaborated with leading orchestras and conductors and is devoted to the interpretation of classical and contemporary repertoire. In addition to her concert activities, she is intensively engaged in teaching work at the Conservatory in Strasbourg, conducts master classes at international music academies and acts as a judge of prestigious interpretation competitions. After its release in 2021, her solo album Bach en Miroir received extremely favorable reviews from international critics.
Vincent Dubois is one of the most important French organists of his generation.

In 2016, he was appointed one of the three titular organists of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, one of the most prestigious organ positions in the world.
