About event
They are symbols of a modern lifestyle that have not lost their historical charm even after a century. Experience the charming atmosphere of the first republic thanks to the architectural jewels that still fascinate with their soul and appearance. Travel with us to places that inspire admiration and spark imagination about what stories were written in them when they were created. Villas with the stamp of historicism, art nouveau, cubism or functionalism will take us through the golden era of Czechoslovak architecture. We enter the legendary Tugendhat Villa in Brno with a rare onyx wall and let ourselves be carried away by its magnetizing glass room. We will take a walk through Hermina Ripková's summer house in Pisárky, which is considered the most romantic villa, or take a look at Kolonia Nový dům with elements of modernity. We let ourselves be carried away by the story of the "levitating" Villa Savoye or the kingdom of organic architecture - the Villas in Löbau. Acclaimed architectural historian and excellent storyteller Vladimír Šlapeta will introduce us to the intimate testimony of buildings from the interwar and later periods. ✨🏢⏳🏛️
Vladimír Šlapeta will tell an engaging story about:
— extraordinary buildings of the interwar and later era
— villas whose stories still fascinate today
— the golden era of Czechoslovak architecture
— specific jewels of architecture and from our territory
— the fates not only of the villas themselves, but also of their owners
— that we do not erase historical memory
Prof. Ing. arch. Vladimír Šlapeta, DrSc.
is a recognized capacity in his field, an architectural historian and university pedagogue who graduated from architecture studies at CTU, where he later served as dean. He also worked as a dean at the Faculty of Architecture at BUT in Brno. He was also the head of the architecture department of the National Technical Museum in Prague. He is also a member of the Akademie der Kuenste in Berlin and an honorary member of the American Institute AIA and the Royal Institute of British Architects RIBA. We also know him as an excellent storyteller who took many shots in famous villas abroad and in our country, and he knows this issue intimately. After all, his father also worked as an architect during the First Republic. He is also the author of a number of publications on modern architecture of the 20th century and urban planning, and has received several awards.
