Vojtěch Mašek in The production The Pearl Eater deals with a theme that he partially explored in his previous works, whether in the field of theatre, comics or film, and that is misinformation and the creation of so-called alternative truths and conspiracy theories.

The hero of the production is a person who loses his mind and imagination in a dark version of the fantasy universe. Its foreshadowing and starting point is the antithesis to interpretations of the famous Don Quixote, its romanticization and, to a large extent, its reversal of meaning. Today's Quixote, or one of his forms, could be a person not unlike conspiracy theorists. Someone who, under the influence of reading fantasy novels and various reports about how the world works, becomes a fighter for the supposed truth and builds a parallel universe in the middle of his apartment. A hero or an anti-hero who conducts a dialogue perhaps with his or her neighbor, or a non-existent delusion, a chimera agreeing to his delirium. Two characters who have sometimes even intimate conversations; two identities that can challenge each other perfectly, admit a game, a game within a game. It is a thoughtful dramatic shape that combines a linear plot with a collage-like structure. Mašek grasps current topics such as conspiracy and fake news, but creates a new image constructed based on the rearrangement of ideas and information into another illusory morphology.
