About event
Panel discussion and contemporary witness talk
After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Berlin turned into a city of radical change. The 90s were characterized by feelings of departure and uncertainty, new possibilities and hard distribution fights. Empty houses and old interfaces offered space for art, subculture and political experiments, but increasingly also for controversial investments and urban redesign.
35 years after reunification, we can look back on this transformation time: How did the encounter of people and initiatives from East and West Berlin? Who mixed in Berlin and whose voices were overlooked?
Based on personal memories, three contemporary witnesses discuss spontaneous cultural areas, the wild nightlife, occupied houses, protests against investors, growing tensions about living space and commercial interests - then as now.
Discuss it:
Christiane Rösinger
as a musician (among others at the Lassie Singers and Britta), satirist and co -founder of the flittlich bar at the Ostbahnhof, she has shaped the Berlin cultural scene since the 1990s. In addition to her musical work, she works as an author and brings her own plays on stage.
Dr. Dirk Moldt
In the GDR, Dirk Moldt was part of the opposition scene and after the fall of the Berlin Wall as a house occupier in Friedrichshain. Today he works as a collection manager at the Lichtenberg Museum and is scientifically concerned with the social and political upheavals after reunification.
Manfred Kühne
After completing his architecture studies, Manfred Kühne worked as a city planner for the Senate Administration in Berlin from 1991. There he later led the highest monument protection authority. He is an expert in dealing with Berlin's historical heritage and for the perspectives of new urban planning visions.
Moderation:
Florentine Schmidtmann
She is a scientific speaker in the Berlin Wall Foundation. As a cultural historian and exhibition maker, she focuses on German-German history and the transformation period after 1989/90.
Admission free
