We invite you to the commemoration ceremony of Ukrainian dissident Vasyl Makukh, who committed self-immolation on November 5, 1968 in Kyiv on Khreshchatyk as a sign of protest against the Russification of Ukraine and the occupation of Czechoslovakia. The next day, Vasyl Makukh died in a Kyiv hospital from burns, and the Soviet authorities did everything possible so that no one found out about his deed.
Two months later, his fate was repeated by the Czech student Jan Palach.
In 2018, up to 50 -anniversary of the day of self-immolation, the City Council of the city of Prague decided to name the pedestrian bridge at Prague 10 after Vasyl Makuch.
Laying of flowers to the symbolic plaque on the Vasyl Makuch Bridge will take place on November 5, 2024 at 09:00 at the address: Makuchova Lávka Vršovice , 101 00 Praha 10.
