Recapitulation of the Watergate affair, which began in 1972 and culminated in the resignation of then-President Richard Nixon in 1974. Reporters Robert Woodward and Carl Bernstein, who worked for the Washington Post newspaper, were involved in the publication of the scandal surrounding secret funds and the discrediting of political opponents. The para-documentary drama, in which the famous tandem Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman were embodied, tells about journalistic courage, patience and consistency. Reporters compile their revelations from dozens of facts and witness statements. They allude to the reluctance of witnesses, their fear of eventual consequences and pressures from the highest spheres. Woodward uses a mysterious informant (Hal Halbrook) from government circles who meets him in the underground garages. Another important figure in the story is editor-in-chief Bradlee (Jason Robards won an Oscar for his portrayal), who cheers for both journalists and can face political threats. An insight into one of the key stages of modern American history benefits from authentic behind-the-scenes editorial coverage. It is an example of inventive work with tension, which dispensed with standard chases, shootouts and superhuman supermen.
