About event
The Czech Sociological Society and the Institute of Sociological Studies of FSV UK invite you to participate in the annual conference of the Czech Sociological Society "Understanding Uncertainty: Crisis, Knowledge and Sociology of the Contemporary Czech Republic".
Intertwining economic, political, environmental, technological and epistemic challenges intensify the experience of uncertainty, disrupt existing forms of social integration, question the authority of institutions and experts and change the very conditions of the production of social knowledge. In this situation, sociology is confronted with the need to critically reflect not only contemporary Czech society, but also its own analytical tools, research practice and social role.
The conference offers an open space for meeting, exchange and critical discussion of topics that resonate in contemporary Czech sociology and other social science disciplines. We welcome theoretical, empirical and methodological contributions reflecting a wide range of social processes, actors and institutions in the Czech (and comparative) context, from everyday social practices to structural changes in society. relations between science, politics and the media or regional and local differences.
Special attention will be paid to contributions that critically reflect on the state and direction of sociology as a field, its theoretical framework, methodological approaches and social role. The conference creates space both for the analysis of the uncertainties and challenges of the present, as well as for a broader discussion about what we know about contemporary society, how this knowledge is created and what questions, perspectives or voices remain on the margins.
Contributions connecting academic research with the public sphere, politics or practice and opening up new ways of sociological understanding are also welcome.
