We invite you to the exhibition!
FOAM IN THE CAGE
Opening: 15.4. - 19.00
Duration of the exhibition: 15.4. - 10.5. 2026
Authors: Juraj Rattaj (SK) and Martin Chramosta (CH/CZ/AU)
Curator: Róbert Repka
Modern man has always sought to gain and maintain a high degree of control and management over the natural world. The joint exhibition of the artists Juraj Rattaj (SK) and Martin Chramost (CH/CZ/AU) thematizes the human effort to appropriate nature with the help of spatial installations.
In his work, Juraj reflects these processes in the ZOO space as a modern heterotopia that blurs the boundaries between wilderness and captivity, nature and culture, life and death. He questions the notion of inviolability and reveals the hidden biopolitical dynamics of knowledge, power and control.
Through the metaphor of "foam in a cage", Martin points to the wider socio-political context and demonstrates the limits of any power regime to subjugate, imprison or dominate. It shows that forms are restless and elusive – they escape and expand.
Foam in the Cage is both a literal description and a hazy metaphor, suggesting the futility of capturing something that is inherently elusive. The works combine a love of freedom with a bleak foreboding, balancing between a dystopian feel and escapist relief.
FOR MAAT gallery is a partner of Trenčín 2026.
