About event
The migration waves of Greek refugees in 1948 received a lot of attention from the point of view of research (interviews with direct participants) and science (ongoing professional and popularization outputs in the form of publications, exhibitions, documents). The information available about the subsequent migration waves of adult Greeks and the fate of their participants is less numerous and comprehensive. A group of prisoners of the so-called democratic army, later called monarcho-fascists, were also part of the adult Greeks arriving in our territory. They were under the constant surveillance of the state authorities, so that in 1953 some of them became victims of court processes constructed by the then communist regime. Many of this group were convicted and imprisoned, then exiled back to Greece the following year. This year marks the 70th anniversary of their repatriation. With the exhibition, we reflect on this unknown event both in Czech society and in the environment of the Greek national minority in the Czech Republic.
We present ordinary people whose lives were fatally affected by war, politics and also the fact that they happened to be at the wrong time in the wrong place. Two historians from the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes and the Institute of History of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University and an ethnologist from the Institute of Ethnography of the Moravian Regional Museum participate in the exhibition.
