When only numbers remain of people. The horrors of the Nazi regime and the fate of Roma imprisoned in concentration camps are recalled by the exhibition of Roma tattooist and artist Alex Dzurk. In ten large-format drawings, he presents the faces of fictitious Roma inspired by real stories. Not anonymous numbers in the archives, but real destinies. Portraits drawn in pencil capture emotions, pain and human dignity – all that cannot fit into any number.
For Alex Dzurk, this topic also has a personal dimension. From family stories, he knows stories about escaping from the Nazis and about what the Roma experienced during the war. In addition, as a tattoo artist in the past, he helped former neo-Nazis re-tattoo symbols of hatred and changed them into new images and new stories. The exhibition is not just a look into the past. But also a strong reminder that the victims of the Holocaust must not disappear from our memory. Nabisteraha - we will not forget.
