About event

ROMANIA AND SLOVAKIA
All roads did not lead only to Rome...

After the success in Bratislava, the exhibition Romans and Slovakia is coming to Trenčín in a modified form, enriched with unique stories and finds related to Trenčín, its surroundings and also the famous Roman inscription. On the Trenčín castle rampart, you can still see a unique Roman inscription from 179 AD. l. – a unique trace of the soldiers of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, who left a legacy here during the Marcomanni Wars.

It is in Trenčín, where the worlds of Rome and barbarism once met, that an exhibition is opening that reveals the history of our territory in the 1st to 4th centuries. The Romans and Slovakia exhibition tells the story of the country, which for four centuries was on the border of the Roman Empire a place of trade, cultural clashes, military expeditions and diplomatic meetings.

It presents the visitor with original objects from military equipment, through objects of everyday life, to extraordinary finds from princely graves. In the unique space of the medieval barracks of Trenčín Castle, where soldiers later lived, a much older world comes to life - the world of legionnaires, merchants, craftsmen and tribes that cooperated with and competed with Rome.

The exhibition presents the latest results of archaeological research and brings a modern view of the Roman presence in Slovakia.

👉 Come and find out what the Romans left on our territory - and why this story is also important today.
