Walking Tour: Riots in Kreuzberg
Event by: RevolutionaryBerlin Tours
Location: Kottbusser Tor, Kottbusser Tor, Berlin - Bezirk Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg
About event
Every year since 1987, Kreuzberg has seen protests on May 1. "Revolutionary May Day" combines Germany’s knack for organization with Berlin’s predisposition for nihilism. This is our very first tour, which we started in 2009 and have been updating ever since. We will cover:
– the neighborhood uprising of 1987
– 30+ years of revolutionary demonstrations
- refugee protests at Oranienplatz
- struggles against rising rents
– the stories of three occupied houses
– the wall and what it meant for West Berliners
If you would like to attend a tour, please send an e-mail to: [email protected]. You will get a confirmation e-mail within one day. This is to make sure we have enough people (at least 5) but also not too many (no more than 25) for a tour to take place.
Our tour will be meeting at Kottbusser Tor, at the corner of Admiralstraße, in front of Südblock. We will meet at 14:00 and leave by 14:10.
The tour will end two hours later next to the Schillingbrücke. We will not be using public transportation — the tour will be entirely outside.
Suggested donation is 15 euros per person, but any contribution is appreciated and none is required. You can also pick up a signed copy of the new book "Revolutionary Berlin."
