About event
War and Peace ( Solo Piano recital )
The strongest of all warriors are these two — Time and Patience (Lev Tolstoy)
Composed in 1940 amidst the turmoil of World War II, Prokofiev's first "war sonata" is a gripping masterpiece that challenges both performer and listener alike. His Sixth Sonata opens with an unflinching portrayal of the horrors of war, setting the stage with a martial theme that unleashes a brutal and relentless depiction of conflict and destruction throughout this 30-minute tour de force.
In stark contrast, Schumann’s "Humoreske," often regarded by the composer as his most melancholic work, offers a deeply personal exploration of emotion, unbound by traditional forms. This extraordinary piece brings to life the contrasting personas of Florestan and Eusebius, Schumann’s literary alter egos, as they navigate the tenderness, nostalgia, and passionate outbursts of a richly lived existence. Through this work, Schumann invites us into the intimate landscapes of his inner world, where creativity and emotion flow freely.
