»We Are Part of Berlin – Voices of Diversity. “Paths to Participation” – Discussion & Networking Meeting
Event by: Ulme35
Location: Ulme35, Ulmenallee 35, Berlin - Bezirk Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf
About event
How can women with a migration background succeed in political participation in Berlin? What hurdles exist - and what paths lead to more visibility, networking and participation?
With these questions, the “We Are Part of Berlin” project is closing its third year. Since 2023, over 120 people in five groups have been trained, supported and encouraged to actively participate in social and political processes. Many participants have founded their own initiatives, built networks and inspired other women to take responsibility themselves.
Friday, November 14th • 5:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., entry from 5:00 p.m.
Registration via: https://forms.gle/oRhGLocuRDqr2924A
The project strengthens refugees and immigrants from Ukraine - especially women - in their commitment to democracy and civil society. Knowledge, courage and new ideas emerged in workshops, exchange meetings and mentoring.
The final event presents the results of this work and opens up space for exchange about the future:
How can participation be sustainably strengthened? What role do migrant communities play in Berlin's urban society? And how can women with a migration background become visible as actors?
Discuss these questions:
Dr. Kamila Schöll-Mazurek (Federal Managing Director of the Polish Social Council e.V.), Tetiana Goncharuk (Human Rights Activist from Ukraine/District Advisory Council for Participation and Integration Marzahn-Hellersdorf), Antonios Hazim (Hiwarat e.V.), Mahdiah Hashemi (Managing Director of the Afghan Women's Association e.V.)
Moderation:
Tetiana Lopashchuk (Project Manager, German-Ukrainian Office, DUB) / Viadrina Center of Polish and Ukrainian Studies, VCPU)
The event follows the photo exhibition about the participation of Ukrainian women in the Ulme35. The exhibition was inspired by the participants in the project - many of the women portrayed met through “We Are Part of Berlin”. The moderator and two of the panel participants are themselves protagonists of this exhibition.
The panel discussion then invites you to an informal networking event - open to everyone who is interested in political and civil society participation, who would like to share their own experiences or make new contacts. We would like to facilitate the exchange with a small thematic impulse: upon entry, each participant receives a colored dot that marks their personal area of interest - such as political participation, community work or women's empowerment. This is how conversations, ideas and perhaps collaborations arise naturally. Together we want to discuss how we can make diversity visible and break down barriers so that more people can actively participate - and Berlin will become more open, stronger and more inclusive.
