A search - a love - and a piece of young contemporary German history: WHEN THE SOUL FREEZES is a very personal portrait of a Family in Germany. A German mother, a Turkish father, five siblings. It is the family of Stella Sema Yeşiltaç. The filmmaker traces her parents' developments and her siblings' search for identity with great warmth.
What does it mean to be integrated? What does it mean for each individual? Is there a definition? How do we determine them? How do we deal with this, the first, second and third generations?
The filmmaker asked herself all of these questions and searched for answers in many conversations with her parents and siblings. Their parents, who have not spoken to each other for almost 30 years, tell their life and love stories separately but together - and the children share their experiences.
The first generation of "guest workers", the "Germans" and their interaction with each other - their children and their grandchildren: everyone has come to terms with their identity in their own way.
A family story, an adventure, full of hope, despair and a very own one Definition of love. A film about a piece of young German contemporary history that leaves room for reflection.
With follow-up conversation. The filmmaker Stella Sema Yeşiltaç is our guest.
