About event

AI is needed more and more. But she is not creative, has no ideas and uses a lot of energy. What changes through AI?

They are used almost everywhere “iintelligentn” machines: In medicine, in courts, on stock exchanges, the police or for checking creditworthiness. You can translate Sumerian texts, compose music or simulate friendship. They are used for control purposes such as “intelligent” electricity meters or facial recognition at train stations. They enable enormous profits such as the data company Palantir, which also works with secret services.

But AI is not creative, has no ideas and consumes a lot of energy. Is it more of a myth, ideally suited to creating new markets – and new dependencies? Does AI actually increase work productivity? Are people becoming superfluous? Or can stable employment relationships be created and higher wages achieved thanks to AI? In which economic policy environment does technological change take place? How is it controlled? What role does an economic structure with large corporations play in the current geopolitical power shifts, in addition to the fight for access to energy and rare earths? What does all of this mean for the readjustment of the relationship between humans and machines? And what is AI for me: a tool or a 'higher something'? Or just a nice new distraction?

Rainer Fischbach was employed as a consultant and software developer with IT support for product development and production, as well as as a lecturer and with the training of technical computer scientists.
