Weval in Paradiso

The Amsterdam electronic duo Weval consists of Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte Albers. Since their debut in 2013, the band has been known for their dreamy live shows full of melancholy and compelling melodies. Danceable, certainly, but more suitable for the sultry festival meadow than the Stroboscopic nightclub. In recent years, however, there has been a clear shift: their DJ sets brought a rawer, club-oriented sound. On the latest album 'Chorophobia' even breakbeats and hip-hop samples pop up, in a style that is reminiscent of the music of generations like Jamie XX. With this album, Weval sounds fresher than ever, full of new influences and surprising inspiration, and the duo shows that the band in 2025 is still leading and relevant.
