Since the turning point announced by former Chancellor Olaf Scholz in 2022, we have been experiencing an armament campaign and militarization of society that is unparalleled and is supported with great applause by almost all bourgeois parties and state-supporting media.
It is above all the working class that is to be led to the slaughter in the event of war. And it is the working class that, when united, alone has the power to thwart the war effort. Through mass actions and strikes, it can interrupt profit production and thus inflict significant damage on the state and capital and abruptly end the war preparations and the war itself.
Precisely for this reason, the organizations in which it gathers and organizes (especially the trade unions) are an important, if not the most important, terrain in which resistance to war mobilization must form.
However, the DGB Federal Congress is open in 2022 The Federal Executive Board passed the resolution “Yes to arms deliveries” (to Ukraine). Similar resolutions followed from ver.di and IG Metall in 2023. Similar to “Alliance 90/The Greens”, they repeat like a prayer wheel that they are against war and for peace, but then take positions that are nothing other than open support for war. Fortunately, initial resistance to this policy of civil peace is now forming within the unions.
We want to discuss the necessity and perspective of a clear anti-war position within the unions at our next open meeting.
